While doing hse cleaning today, I found the recipe for making safe playdough for the kids..
Oatmeal Playdough
Ingredients:
1 cup flour
2 cups oatmeal
1 cup water
Gradually add water to flour and oatmeal in bowl. Knead until mixed (this dough is sticky, but unique in texture) Model as clay.
Tip: Add cornmeal or coffee grounds in small quantity for texture
Cooked Playdough
Ingredients:
4 cups flour
1 cup salt
2 tblsp cream of tartar (powder form)
1 tbspn oil
4 cups water
Vanilla essence/lemon juice (optional for a delightful smell)
food colouring if required
Directions:
Mix flour, salt and cream of tartar
Pour oil and water into saucepan and boil, add flour mixture slowly
Cook slowly until mixture thickens, stirring continuously
Store in an airtight container and cool place
This playdough will keep for about 3 months. It has a smoother consistency than the uncooked playdough.
For uncooked playdough, mix all the above in a mixing bowl and knead.
Remember to throw away playdough if your child is sick as it will be contaminated with germs and bacteria.
